Installation of wedi® Balco Panel Over Plywood Substrate on Exterior Patio Area

Requirements:

1. Substrate must be sound and stable with 3/4” plywood base installed on 16 o.c. joists.
2. Plywood base must be sloped according to local building codes (at least 1/4 inch/ft).
3. A layer of wedi® Balco Panel 3/8” is to be installed in full coverage tile adhesive bed (exterior grade modified thin set). Use a 3/8” x 3/8” notch trowel. The panel’s joints must be staggered. All joints must be sealed with wedi® polyurethane sealant applied in a minimum bead of 1/2” thickness. Joint sealant to be pressed into the joint using a putty knife. The joints are covered with sealant at least 3/4” wide each side of the joint. Fasteners must be set at a rate of 1 per every sq. ft. and sealed with wedi® joint sealant.
4. Flashing must be installed on top of wedi® Balco Panel at wall-patio connection and where patio ends to cover open edges of wedi® assembly.
5. Exterior grade, non-absorbent tile to be installed with exterior grade epoxy thinset. All tile joints must be filled with exterior grade epoxy grout filler to make sure no moisture can get trapped in thin set bed between tile and wedi® (freeze-thaw cycle issues).
