Setting Up Balcony and Patio Constructions
The wedi® Balco Building Panel is a great solution for tile balconies and terraces. Many people shy away from using tiles on balconies and terraces because of potential complications, yet the wedi® Balco Building Panel is proven to be an effective solution for these unique installations. The Balco can be used on almost all firm and critical balcony subsurfaces, making it an ideal substructure element for perfect tiling. Thanks to its specially designed coating, it does not absorb any water (eliminating freezing issues), reduces stresses and does not require any extra drying time.
Installing Over Old Tile or Concrete Surfaces
Remove damaged tiles from old tiled coverings and make good the damaged areas using a medium bed mortar. The subsurface must be able to withstand the load, be dry and be free of loose particles.
Lay the wedi® Balco Building Panel down flat on the substructure using thinset or medium bed mortar. If the existing slope of the subsurface is less than 1.5 %, we recommend the use of wedi® Balco Sloping Panels.
Embed the wedi® Balco Building Panel flat into the wedi® Balco medium-bed mortar and align it using a sliding action.
Once the cement bed has set, seal the “Balco / Balco” joints and the “wall / Balco” joints using the wedi® sealing tape and wedi® 520 waterproofing. Alternatively, you can use the wedi® joint sealant to seal joints.
The stainless steel V4A wedi® Balco balcony end profile provides a clean finish. The corners are formed to size on site.
Then apply the required tile covering.
