wedi® Building Panel Over Wood Subfloor
wedi® Building Panels provide excellent substrates for interior floors. They’re suitable for extreme commercial as well as residential use, as proven in the widely recognized Robinson Floor Test (ASTM C627), in which the wedi® Building Panels earned the heavy-duty commercial use rating. When applied over a wooden substrate, wedi® Building Panels act as a waterproof membrane and create a superior bonding surface for ceramic tile. In addition, the thermally insulating qualities make these boards superb candidates for installations incorporating floor-heating systems. The 1/4” and 1/2” materials can be used in flooring applications.
Simply spread polymer modified mortar over a clean wood subfloor.
Apply the Building Panel by laying the panels into the mortar.
Fasten with wedi® fasteners.
Tape all joints with fiberglass mesh tape or wedi® waterproof tape or wedi® polyurethane sealant and begin tiling!
wedi® Underlayment Over Wood Subfloor
- wedi® panels of 1/8”, 1/4” and 1/2” thicknesses are recommended for floors.
- Deflection of structural subfloor shall not exceed 1/360 of the total distance (span) between two floor joists, when measured center to center. (ASTM C627). The subfloor must meet IRC/ICC Standards.
- Wood subfloor should be a minimum of 5/8” exterior grade plywood or 3/4” OSB.
- Joist spacing should not exceed 16”(0.4 m) o.c.
- 2” alkali resistant fiberglass mesh tape to be applied over all seams in dry areas. wedi® waterproof polyurethane sealant or wedi® sealing tape to be applied over all seams and fastener heads if a waterproof installation is required.
